Dark Eldar Stuff

So I've ordered a medium sized wych cult through The Warstore which will be arriving soon hopefully! I've decided to run them as Drow from D&D. I've got all the paint schemes worked out in my head so hopefully that'll look good.

I've though, as Drow worship a spider Godess Lloth so I thought if I ever run beastmasters (they dont really appeal to me) I could use the spiders from the goblin spider riders to be either khymeras and clawed fiends.

Also I could use that new large arachnid model to represent a talos.

I've also thought if I wanted to run wracks or grotesques I could possibly use spider models here intead, claiming the haemonculi are drow wizards and using sudden swarm. Just a thought atm neither of these options appeal to me.

I'll have to come up with a spider design to paint on the sails of my raiders/ravagers.

As a side note I've finished painting 6 warlocks now :)

Painting updates and stuff.

So looking at my paint queue it seems I've neglected this blog more than I thought. So far my progress is thus:
* Touch ups on Dark Reapers - Finished
* Touch ups on Swooping Hawks - Just need to do the gems on 2 hawks
* Repaint Warp Spiders - 3 done, 1 needs gems painted the last is only primed.
* Repaint Shining Spears - 2 done 2 need gems and vines painted, the 5th is still the old scheme.
Warlocks - 3 done 7 to go.
Rushed to paint for a tourney 20 Guardians - 4 need gems 16 need minor details and gems.

Also non Eldar related Jane's and Arch's minis turned up in the mail today. Darksword minis look gorgeous though are bitches to put together, perhaps the glue was just a bad batch?

First tournament!

So a few weeks back Anthony asked me to be his partner in a doubles tournament. As I've never been to a tourney before but always wanted to go (though with a couple of friends) I jumped at the chance. We didn't do so great but I had a great time. Also managed to get 20 of my guardians painted, though low quality I'm able to add the finishing touches to get them looking all right in no time. So here's some pics from the day.

Rant/wish list.

BOLS latest post is rumours that Black Templars are possibly after Necrons. YES! Another marine codex! Good to see that the recent FAQ updating them to current marine wargear costs/stats will get outdated before long. Must've been so hard playing a broken, outdated army. Sucks to be those 3 guys who play Tau and before their new dex that one guy who was rumoured to play Dark Eldar.
It's good to know there's as many different marine chapters as there is Xeno's in the galaxy. Isn't it? Good to see so much variation in the game. No need to have those other variant armies.
Lets see what's been taken out.Chaos legions, Harlequins, Kroot Mercs, Ork warbands/feral orks, geenstealer cults.
We even have useless entities that can't really field an army (till Matt Ward got his hands on the last grey knight codex) in GK and SoB. Why not add other small/useless things? PDF, those things that defend the forgeworlds, arbites. Why not Crone Eldar or Corsairs? At least Forgeworld is adding that option.

Thinking about how much marines piss me off in general, got me thinking how interesting/fun it would be if GW broke 40k up into 3 different time periods.


40k as is now just take away the divergent marine dex's and have C:Space Marines. Add in some more interesting Xenos races and get rid of the SoB.

30k: Heresy. Here's where you can add as many bloody marine variants as you want. Wolves, B/D Angels, bring back the chaos legions. Marine players would love this shit. Options to take Primarchs that I see so much wishlisting for. Just marine on marine action (which so many games are anyway coz of the over abundance of them). Take out all the Xenos races and include the Emperor and his bodyguards. A way to balance things out would be to have codex: Wargear. As its the same time period everything would be the same. This way players have to buy two books so GW gets more money, I'm sure it would be a hit. Iron and Crusade armour does look pretty cool.

Ancient times (not sure what to call this). This time period is when the Necrons were battling the Old Ones for dominance of the galaxy. Races would include:
Necrons (obviously) lots more options as theyre at the peak of their empire, also more C'Tan. Don't think Pariahs would be around though.
Old Ones.
Eldar (nothing like their current versions, as they all fought using psychic powers and probably didn't train much for speed or close combat).
Orks - similar to current day orks I'd say.
Few other races the Old Ones made.
Devourer demons - created from all the turmoil going on through the warp.

Bring movement rates back for 40k and Ancient Times to better show the difference between races, currently I think it's pretty stupid. I think this would be great for the hobby, lots more variety and balance. GW would make a killing from being allowed to spam Space Marines during 30k Heresy. 40k itself might die though as I'm thinking most Marine players would want to use their own Chapters from the Heresy and Necron players wouldn't be able to call upon their full arsenal in 40k as theyre still sleeping - though I'd be happy for the fluff to change to say theyre fully awake.

Thoughts vs IG

So tonight I had a game against Imperial Guard 2k pts. Kill points, spearhead. My theory was if I slowly advanced the hydras wouldnt take out my skimmers as easily. This kept 3 of my shuriken cannons out of range and when my infantry ended up blown out of their vehicles they were useless.
I think in the future I'll try and rush them, give the hydras only one round of shooting. Get in amongst them, use the dire avengers to take out the heavy weapons teams and use the scatter lasers/shuriken cannons to stop the chimeras heavy flaming me all over the place.

Live and learn I suppose. I need to play against other races more, playing just verse Chaos is boring.

Dear neglected blog.

It's been a whole month since I made a post and still no new photos sadly. Well I've accomplished several small items off my to do lists. Ive got the next step in my swooping hawk colour scheme, 3/5 shining spears are finished in their final scheme, 3/5 reapers are also finished. Forgeworld avatar is 3/4 done. I've got a new design for my Warp Spiders and 2 of them are finished. I've also attached a pennant onto my banshee exarch, I'm not overly happy with it but its growing on me. I think I need to touch up the rest of her paint scheme really.

Not dead yet.

It feels like its been forever since Ive made a post here, wish I had more time. Now I've moved back out of dads house I no longer have access to a camera.

I've painted one shadow spectre he's grey with white robes. He looks ok I suppose.
The Avatar is slowly improving as well, he's taking forever to paint. Slow and steady wins the race I guess.

I'm also thinking of possibly buying lots of dark eldar warrior flags off ebay, clipping the top and then giving them to each of my exarchs so I can paint some fun freehand. I'll think on this some more.
